From business meetings to conference receptions, BCRI offers a one-of-a-kind space for your gathering.

Before moving forward, please note the following:

  • As a private nonprofit organization, BCRI reserves the right to refuse rental of its facilities to any organization for any purpose.
  • BCRI does not rent its facilities for press conferences on behalf of other organizations or agencies, for political campaign events, or religious worship services.
  • The use of the Institute is not authorized for events where the primary purpose is of a marketing or commercial nature.
  • BCRI assumes no responsibility for the accuracy of any representations that may be made on its premises by renting organizations.

  • Event Space Availability

    Spaces at the BCRI are generally available Tuesdays through Saturdays. Start times are no earlier than 9:00 AM with end times no later than 9:00 PM.

  • Technology & A/V

    The following equipment is available for requests made at least 48 business hours in advance of the event. Please select if you would like to use BCRI equipment for your event and the item will be added to your invoice. Any damage or replacement needs will be added to the cost of the event and billed accordingly. Please note that not all items are available for every space. You may also bring your own equipment.
  • Technology support from the BCRI IT team is available at a rate of $50 per hour in hourly increments.
  • Tables & Seating

    The following equipment is available for requests made at least 48 business hours in advance of the event. Any damage or replacement needs will be added to the cost of the event and billed accordingly. Please note that not all items are available for every space. You may also bring your own equipment.

  • Event Services

    Please select additional required and/or requested services.
  • Security is required at BCRI during regular business hours and will be included for daytime events from 9 AM to 5 PM. City, state, and federal codes, including safety/fire regulations, will be enforced by the Institute’s security staff and must be adhered to by all visitors and guests. For evening events, fees will accrue at $50 per hour per guard.
  • Two (2) members from the maintenance/housekeeping team will prep the space ahead of your event and assist with returning the space back to its pre-event state once the event concludes. This service is included for weekday events from 9 AM to 5 PM. For Tuesday-Friday evenings = $75 per hour and Saturdays = $100 per hour.
  • Only pre-approved caterers are allowed to cook, prep, and serve food and drink at BCRI. Please see our list of BCRI-approved and experienced caterers at https://www.bcri.org/facility-rentals/. A BCRI-approved caterer may serve alcohol with a meal or hold an open bar as part of a catering contract, but cash bars are not permitted.
  • Fee to keep the galleries open after-hours for special events, as late as 7 PM. (Pending staff availability.) Food and beverages are not allowed in BCRI’s historic galleries. Smoking is not allowed in any part of the building.

  • Clear Signature
    To formally reserve a facility, a nonrefundable deposit is required at the time of booking. The amount of the deposit is 50% of the total rental fees. The event will not be confirmed until this deposit is received. The remaining balance must be paid in full two weeks before the scheduled event. All checks should be made payable to “Birmingham Civil Rights Institute” and with “Facility Rental mm/dd/yy” written in the memo line.

Alabama Sin Miedo featured a community fiesta in the courtyard at BCRI. The event was held in commemoration of HB56, the anti-immigration bill that shook our state to the core.
