Three Decades of American Printmaking: The Brandywine Workshop Collection
For more than thirty-five years, the Brandywine Workshop in Philadelphia has served to inspire artists and students of varied backgrounds and races to produce innovative collaborations in printmaking. Founded in 1972, the Workshop has hosted more than 350 artists, producing over 600 images and 20,000 individual prints for its prized limited editions original collection. Along the way it has bridged important geographic and cultural boundaries through teaching and art, bringing together masters and apprentices to focus on a medium known for its expressive potential and broad accessibility.
Drawn from Brandywine's extensive archives, Three Decades of American Printmaking presents 30 prints from the collection created by 27 culturally diverse artists -- a small sample of the richness the workshop has brought to contemporary art.
Brandywine is a strong supporter and patron of African American, Native American, Hispanic and Asian artists, and an advocate for serious professional artists regardless of race or ethnicity. Access to prints available for sale from the collection, as well as background information on the Workshop, its programs and exhibitions, can be found on its website: www.brandywineworkshop.com.
